FixNews is add-on software for Netscape Navigator or Netscape Communicator. It works in conjunction with the newsreader, and provides killfile and anti-spam capabilities. The killfile capabilities consist of being able to block newsgroup messages based upon author or subject. Wildcard support is included. The anti-spam capabilities consist of being able to change the e-mail address in all outgoing newsgroup posts. (This anti-spam e-mail address only applies to newsgroup posts, and private e-mail continues to use the default identity.) Note that newsgroup posts are not the only method spammers use to collect e-mail addresses. If you have JavaScript enabled, just visiting a web page might be sufficient to have your e-mail address collected and added to some list!
