The host has to support finger service for you to be able to use it; Whois service used to get information from Network Information Center servers. They provide databases of registered users and hosts from all around the world. It allows you to search for a system by name or for the manager of a system; Daytime service to get time of day at the remote host's location;Clock Synchronization used to synchronize your PC clock with any daytime server available on the Internet. Pinger is currently available in version 2.3. This system runs on windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95, and allows the user to configure a list of IP systems that the program will ping at a user specified interval. If a system is down, the program notifies the operator. Once a system comes back on-line, pinger logs that time too. I personally use it to monitor over 200 addresses (routers, router interfaces, hubs, servers, etc) from my regular NT workstation system with no impact on its performance
